Pope's Envoy Meets Russian Official Wanted by ICC and Patriarch Kirill in Moscow

Pope Francis's peace envoy, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, met with a Russian official wanted by the ICC over allegations of illegally transferring Ukrainian children to Russia, as well as Moscow's spiritual leader, Patriarch Kirill, during his visit to Moscow. The meeting discussed humanitarian issues related to military operations and the protection of children's rights. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for the Russian official and President Vladimir Putin in connection with the war crime accusation of unlawfully deporting Ukrainian children. Zuppi's visit comes amid strained relations between the Vatican and the Russian Orthodox Church, with Patriarch Kirill being a staunch supporter of Putin and the offensive in Ukraine.
