Lavrov's Controversial Actions and Russia's Diplomatic Tensions.

Elizabeth Whelan, sister of Paul Whelan, a former US Marine detained in Russia for over four years, met the eyes of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York City. Lavrov chaired the meeting, during which US ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield called for Paul Whelan's release and accused Russia of violating international law by wrongfully detaining Americans. Elizabeth Whelan said she was glad Lavrov saw her as the face of her brother and was reminded of his wrongful detention.
