India Condemns China's Territorial Claims in Strong Protest

India has lodged a strong protest with China over a new map that claims India's territory, including the state of Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin plateau. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of southern Tibet and had previously released a map renaming 11 places in the state as being within "Zangnan". India's foreign minister dismissed China's territorial claims, stating that making absurd claims on India's territory does not make it China's territory. Tensions between the two countries have escalated since a deadly clash in the Himalayas in June 2020, and while the situation has calmed, soldiers remain amassed on both sides of the frontier.
