"ICJ Rejects Ukraine's 'Terrorism' Case Against Russia in Landmark Ruling"

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Russia partially violated an anti-terrorism treaty by failing to investigate the funding of pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine, including those responsible for shooting down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in 2014. However, the ICJ declined to hold Russia responsible for the aircraft's downing and rejected Ukraine's request for compensation. The court did find Russia in violation of the UN's anti-discrimination treaty for failing to protect Ukrainian-language education in Crimea but did not grant compensation for other claims of discrimination. The case predates Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and tensions between the two countries remain high.
