China has been actively engaging with senior officials and diplomats worldwide in an effort to mediate the crisis. Wang's call is part of a series of phone calls held by him with counterparts from the Muslim world. China's special envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, is also leading diplomatic efforts to find a solution. China has repeatedly emphasized the need for a united stand from Arab and Islamic countries to resolve the crisis and has criticized Israel's actions in Gaza.
