Iranian Nobel Peace Prize Winner's Children Speak Out Against 'Tyrannical' Regime

Imprisoned Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi, awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, denounced Iran's "tyrannical and anti-women religious" government in her acceptance speech read by her children in Norway. Mohammadi, who has campaigned against the compulsory hijab and the death penalty, has been held in Tehran's Evin prison since 2021. Her 17-year-old twins, living in exile in France, received the award on her behalf and delivered her speech, expressing pessimism about seeing their mother again. The prize recognizes the brave women in Iran and worldwide fighting for human rights and an end to discrimination against women. Mohammadi is currently on a hunger strike in solidarity with the Baha'i community, Iran's largest religious minority.
