Iranian Activist's Children Accept Nobel, Slam 'Despotic' Regime

Imprisoned Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, had her children accept the award on her behalf and deliver a speech denouncing the oppressive Iranian government. Mohammadi, a prominent advocate against the compulsory hijab and the death penalty, has been held in Tehran's Evin prison since 2021. Her children, living in exile in France, read a speech she smuggled out of her cell, highlighting the struggle for women's rights and criticizing the government's repression, lack of judicial independence, and corruption. A chair was symbolically left empty at the ceremony, and Mohammadi observed a hunger strike in solidarity with the Baha'i community.
