Iran has executed two men for blasphemy and insulting Islam. Yousef Mehrdad and Sadrollah Fazeli Zare were running dozens of online anti-religion platforms dedicated to the hatred of Islam, the promotion of atheism, and insults to sanctities. UN experts have called on Iran to stop persecution and harassment of religious minorities, including Christian converts and atheists. Executions in Iran have increased by 75% in 2022 from 2021, and there are concerns that the number of executions will continue to rise in 2023.
