Hong Kong Activist Seeks U.S. Asylum Amid Safety Concerns

Hong Kong activist Anna Kwok, who is currently based in Washington, fears for her safety after Hong Kong police issued an arrest warrant and a HK$1 million bounty for her alleged national security violations. Kwok, along with seven other overseas-based activists, has been speaking out on human rights violations in Hong Kong following the imposition of a national security law. Despite the risks, Kwok continues to lobby U.S. officials and seek political asylum in the United States. She believes returning home would lead to arrest and is concerned about the uncertainty of her asylum application. Kwok's group, The Hong Kong Democracy Council, conducts research and advocacy work to raise awareness about the situation in Hong Kong.
