Escaping Ukraine's Occupied Territories: A Desperate Quest for Freedom

Eight evacuees from Ukraine's occupied territories share their experiences of life under Russian occupation. They describe food shortages, informants, and a lack of access to healthcare and services. Many have chosen to leave their homes and belongings behind to return to Ukraine, while others have sought refuge in Russia and then traveled to Europe. The occupied areas face economic and governance challenges, worsened by limited travel and trade due to Western sanctions. The evacuees express a lack of hope for the future in the occupied territories and describe a life of solitude and fear under Russian control.
