Violent Clashes Claim Lives in Lebanon's Palestinian Refugee Camp

Clashes in the Ain al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of three fighters and a civilian, with dozens of others wounded. The violence, which broke out again after a period of calm, has prompted Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to criticize Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas for the escalating situation. The fighting has centered around a school compound belonging to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, which had previously warned of militants occupying its schools in the camp. The Lebanese army, which traditionally does not enter the camps, has called for an end to the fighting and is taking measures to protect innocent lives.
