A significant archaeological discovery has been made in Claterna, an ancient city in northern Italy, with 3,000 ancient coins and gems unearthed so far. Claterna, once a bustling hub with ties to Rome, existed from the second century B.C. through the sixth century. The ongoing excavation covers about 44 acres, with only 10% of the site searched. Previous excavations have revealed roads, mosaics, a spa facility, and an enormous theater. The recent findings include silver and gold coins, colored gems, and a rare silver coin dating back to 97 BC. The discoveries highlight Claterna's historical importance and its relationship with Rome. Plans are underway to educate the public about Claterna and restore its ancient theater.
