Heatwave Sweeps Midwest: Excessive Heat Warnings Extended

An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for the Chicago area, with peak afternoon heat indices expected to reach 108 to 113 degrees. Chicago cooling centers have opened to help residents stay safe and cool, and the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has activated its Heat Action Plan. The CPS has urged teachers to keep rooms cool and hold recess and physical education indoors. Saint Sabina Catholic Church is also providing relief by distributing water to South Side residents. The National Weather Service reports that the dew point in Chicago has reached 80 degrees, the first time since 1999. The intense heat is expected to continue until Thursday, with a potential record high of 101 degrees and a peak heat index of 112.
