Trump State Department Official Sentenced to Nearly 6 Years for Assault on Capitol

Federico Klein, a former Trump political appointee and Marine Corps veteran, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison for assaulting police officers during the January 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol. Klein repeatedly attacked officers, urged other rioters to join the fray, and tried to prevent police from closing entrance doors. Prosecutors argued that Klein's participation in the riot was motivated by a desire to keep his job as a presidential appointee. Klein, who worked in the State Department, was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison, along with a fine and restitution.
