Stratton’s Senate path clears as CNN projects Illinois Democratic primary win

CNN projects Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton will win the Democratic primary for the open U.S. Senate seat, aided by Gov. JB Pritzker’s early and heavy backing. Her victory over a crowded field, including Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly, would put her on a glide path to Washington, potentially making her the second Black woman from Illinois to serve in the Senate and continuing the broader national trend of Black women in the chamber; Stratton will face GOP candidate Don Tracy in November.
