North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper criticized Republicans for overturning his veto of their 12-week abortion law and suggested that the GOP could pay for it at the ballot box in the 2024 elections. The new law, set to take effect on July 1, bans most abortions in North Carolina at 12 weeks, a sharp decrease from the 20-week ban currently in place throughout the state. Cooper argued that it took Republicans in his state just “42 hours to turn back the clock 50 years” and that the issue would be “front and center” in the 2024 elections.
