Judge's Decision Allows Removal of Confederate Memorial at Arlington Cemetery

A U.S. District Judge has lifted an injunction blocking the removal of a century-old Confederate memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. The judge toured the site and found no desecration of graves, allowing the Army to resume the removal. An independent commission recommended the memorial's removal last year. The statue, which depicts racially insensitive figures, was built to promote reconciliation between the North and South, but the judge questioned this notion. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has arranged for the memorial to be moved to land owned by the Virginia Military Institute.
