California Voters Reject Cash Reparations Plan: Poll

A new poll conducted in California reveals that 59% of voters in the state oppose offering cash reparations to the descendants of African American slaves, while 29% support the idea. The poll comes after Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill in 2020 to establish the California Reparations Task Force, which recommended compensating qualifying Black residents with cash payments of up to $1 million, along with other benefits. The majority of Republicans (90%) oppose cash reparations, while 43% of Democrats support it. Black voters were the most likely demographic to support the idea, with 76% in favor.
