Zelensky's Visit to Washington: Ukraine Aid and Biden Meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to visit Washington next week, following the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The visit aims to reinforce the importance of Congress granting the White House's supplemental budget request for over $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine. While there is ongoing support for helping Ukraine, tensions within the Republican Party and a small number of Democrats over the level of assistance have grown. With Ukraine's slow progress in its summer offensive and the upcoming election year, securing congressional approval for funding is expected to become more challenging. Zelensky's visit comes after Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged an additional $1 billion in U.S. assistance during his meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv.
