North Korea's Successful Spy Satellite Launch Strengthens Military Capabilities

North Korea has claimed the successful launch of its first spy satellite, defying warnings from the US and its allies. The Malligyong-1 satellite was launched on a Chollima-1 rocket from the Sohae facility, and while it appeared to have entered orbit, it is unclear if it is functioning properly. South Korea has responded by suspending parts of a 2018 military pact with North Korea, aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries. The launch has been condemned by the US, South Korea, and Japan for violating UN Security Council resolutions. South Korea plans to launch its own spy satellite at the end of November.
