The Iraqi government cited "repeated incidents of desecration of the sacred Koran" and "insults to Islamic shrines" as reasons for the expulsion. The embassy attack was condemned by Iraqi authorities as a "security breach." The dispute stems from a controversial mini-rally in Stockholm organized by an Iraqi refugee, who had previously burned pages of the Koran. Burning the Koran is considered deeply offensive by many Muslims.
