India's Alleged Involvement in US Sikh Separatist's Assassination Plot

The United States Department of Justice has charged an Indian man, Nikhil Gupta, with murder-for-hire and conspiracy, accusing him of working for the Indian government to carry out the planned assassination of a Sikh separatist leader in New York. Gupta, who is currently awaiting extradition, allegedly coordinated the murder plan under the direction of an Indian government employee identified as "CC-1." The allegations come months after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the assassination of another Sikh separatist leader. The Indian government has stated that it is contrary to their policy to pursue extraterritorial assassinations and has initiated an investigation. The case is expected to impact India-US relations, but so far, no charges have been filed against any Indian government officials.
