Tragic Death of Iranian Teen Armita Geravand Sparks Outrage and Investigation

Armita Geravand, a 16-year-old Iranian girl, has died in a hospital in Tehran after suffering a serious injury during an incident at a metro station. The government claims she fell and hit her head due to a drop in blood pressure, while activists allege she was harassed by government agents for not wearing a hijab. CCTV footage shows Geravand entering the metro station and later being carried out of a metro car unconscious. Foreign-based human rights organizations have called for an independent investigation into her death, similar to the protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini last year. A new hijab law with harsher penalties is currently under consideration in Iran.
