"Oregon Dogs Afflicted by Uncommon Respiratory Illness"

Veterinary laboratories in several states, including Oregon, Colorado, and New Hampshire, are investigating an unusual respiratory illness in dogs that has caused lasting respiratory disease and pneumonia. The illness does not respond to antibiotics, and symptoms include coughing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge, and lethargy. The Oregon Department of Agriculture has documented over 200 cases since mid-August and is working with researchers to identify the cause. While some dogs have died, the exact number is unknown. Pet owners are advised to decrease contact with other dogs and ensure their pets are up to date on vaccines.
