"Locally Transmitted Malaria Cases Surge in Florida's Sarasota County"

Florida's Sarasota County has reported its seventh case of locally contracted malaria, with five cases reported last month and one in May. The county, along with neighboring Manatee County, has been under a mosquito-borne illness alert for nearly a month. Authorities have been using various methods, including insecticide application and mosquito trapping, to control the spread of the disease. This is the 11th outbreak of malaria from mosquitoes in the US since 1992, with the last one occurring in 2003 in Palm Beach County.
