A secret medical lab in California, operated by Chinese company Prestige Biotech, was discovered to be illegally storing bioengineered mice designed to catch and carry the COVID-19 virus. The unlicensed facility in Reedley, California, was filled with infectious agents, medical waste, and various lab supplies. The investigation, launched in December 2022, revealed that the company had no business license and was operating under the cover of night. Fresno County officials accused Prestige Biotech of non-compliance and failing to provide information. The facility has been shut down, and the mice have been euthanized. The CDC detected at least 20 potentially infectious agents in the warehouse.
