Withings has launched a new Body Smart scale that has an "eyes closed" mode, which displays encouraging messages or metrics like step count, air quality, and weather instead of weight. The feature is helpful for people with a history of disordered eating, easily discouraged, or want to focus on other measures of progress like muscle gain. The scale uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to determine body composition and can track heart rate. It also introduces basal metabolic rate (BMR) and metabolic age, which will arrive via an over-the-air update in May along with a pregnancy mode. The $99.95 scale is available in black or white.
