Toyota Refuses Warranty Claim for GR86 Owner After Engine Failure on Track

A Toyota GR86 owner, Luke, claims that Toyota refused to repair his failed engine under warranty after it exploded during a track day event. Luke's car only had around 19,000 miles on the odometer, and he denies abusing the car. Toyota Corporate says he was racing briefly, but Luke disputes this. Luke was quoted $13,000 for an engine replacement that he would have to pay for, completely out of pocket. Toyota is reportedly stingy about engine replacements, whereas Subaru, which makes the effectively identical BRZ, is much more willing to cover failures.
