Rare Encounter: Swimmer Captures Epic Battle Between Sea Lion and Octopus

A woman swimming off the coast of Nanaimo, Canada, captured a "once in a lifetime" sight of a sea lion battling an octopus in a video. The sea lion was seen thrashing about with the octopus, flinging it forcefully away and diving underwater repeatedly. Marine mammal researcher Andrew Trites explained that sea lions typically eat octopuses but must rip off the arms one by one to avoid suffocation. The swimmer couldn't determine the winner of the fight but observed the sea lion tearing off a few legs from the octopus.
