Sensor Technology Mirrors Human Eye for Enhanced Imaging

Researchers at Penn State have developed a device that mimics the human eye's ability to see color using narrowband perovskite photodetectors and a neuromorphic algorithm. The device generates electricity as it absorbs light, potentially leading to battery-free camera technology. The technology may bypass the need for filters used in current cameras, which reduce resolution and add to manufacturing complexity and cost. The findings could also trigger further developments in artificial retina biotechnology.
