Tropical Storm Philippe Strengthens as New System Emerges

Tropical Storm Philippe is expected to strengthen while a new system off Africa may become a tropical depression. Philippe is currently located west of Africa's Cabo Verde Islands and moving westward. It is expected to curve north before reaching South Florida. The tropical wave off Africa is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, with a 40% chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next seven days. Hurricane Ophelia, which made landfall in North Carolina, has weakened and is now a post-tropical cyclone. So far this season, there have been 16 named storms in the Atlantic, with three major hurricanes.
