Severe Storms and Flood Watch Expected in DC Region

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Flood Watch are in effect for most of the D.C. region as a moderate risk for excessive rainfall moves in on Sunday. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. and the Flood Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Flash flooding is likely in low-lying areas near creeks and streams, and there is a potential for large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. The storms are expected to move out of the area by 6 p.m. A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected, with isolated totals in excess of 4 inches possible. The Howard County government in Maryland is urging residents to move their vehicles from Main Street in Ellicott City.
