Kim Potter, a former police officer who fatally shot Black motorist Daunte Wright in 2021, was released from prison on Monday after serving 16 months of her two-year sentence for manslaughter. Potter mistook her handgun for a taser during the incident. She will be on supervised release for the remainder of her sentence. The shooting sparked protests and civil rights advocates have criticized laws against hanging objects from rearview mirrors as a pretext for stopping Black motorists.
