Virginia's I-95 Express Lanes Extension Eases Congestion and Boosts Connectivity

Virginia is set to open a 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes, one of the most congested highways in the US, allowing solo drivers to pay a fee to bypass regular lanes. The extension, a $670 million public-private partnership with Transurban, will run from Stafford County to Fredericksburg and is expected to alleviate traffic congestion. Vehicles with three or more occupants can use the lanes for free, while others can pay a toll that varies based on traffic volume. Construction work will continue to build access and exit ramps, but the new southern terminus is designed to minimize backups.
