Will Jawando Enters Race for Maryland's Open Senate Seat

Will Jawando, a Montgomery County Council Member, has become the first candidate to officially announce his candidacy for Maryland's open Senate seat, following Sen. Ben Cardin's announcement that he would not seek a fourth term. Jawando, who previously worked in the Obama administration, enters the Democratic primary as a long shot, with other prominent figures likely to put themselves forth for this safe Democratic seat, including Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, U.S. Reps. David Trone and Jamie Raskin. If elected, Jawando would be the first person of color to represent Maryland in the Senate.
