"US Statehouses Pushing Restrictions on Transgender Rights and Healthcare"

Republican governors and statehouses across the US are embracing bills targeting the rights of transgender people, including restrictions on gender-affirming medical care for minors, pronoun use in schools, and bathroom use. At least 17 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming care for minors, and hundreds of bills have been proposed this year. Medical groups and advocates criticize the restrictions, saying they further marginalize transgender youth and threaten their health. Every major medical organization opposes the bans and supports the medical care for youth when administered appropriately. Some Democratic-led states are enacting measures aimed at protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ youth.
