"Total Wine Magnate David Trone Announces Senate Run for Open Maryland Seat"

Maryland Rep. David Trone, a Democrat, has announced his candidacy for the US Senate seat that will be vacated by Sen. Ben Cardin. Trone, who has focused on issues such as opioid addiction, mental health, medical research, and criminal justice reform, is the third candidate to announce a Senate campaign since Cardin said he would not seek reelection. Trone is the founder of Total Wine & More liquor stores and spent more than $12 million of his own money on his House race last year. The winner of the Democratic primary will be a heavy favorite to win the seat in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1.
