Texas House Committee Recommends Expulsion of Rep. Bryan Slaton for Sexual Misconduct

A Texas House panel has unanimously recommended the expulsion of Republican state Rep. Bryan Slaton after finding that he engaged in "inappropriate sexual conduct" with a 19-year-old aide who worked for him. The panel found that Slaton had "acted systematically to influence that subordinate and multiple witnesses and obstruct the investigation into the matter." The House will vote on Tuesday whether to remove Slaton, which would require support from two-thirds of the 150-member chamber. Slaton is known for pushing politically extreme, attention-grabbing bills, such as one calling for Texas to secede.
