Senate considers subpoena for mega-donor over gifts to Clarence Thomas.

The Democratic chair of the Senate finance committee, Ron Wyden, has threatened to subpoena Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow over gifts to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Crow's lawyer has accused the committee of conducting an "impermissible legislative tax audit of a private citizen". Wyden has accused Crow of "stonewalling" and said he is discussing next steps with the finance committee, including a subpoena. ProPublica has detailed gifts from Crow to Thomas, including luxury travel and resort stays, a property purchase, and paying school fees. Thomas did not declare most such gifts.
