Sen. Tom Carper announces retirement, opening up Delaware seat.

Democratic Senator Tom Carper of Delaware has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2024 after more than 20 years in the Senate. He has endorsed Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester to take his place. Carper has served as the chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and as a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee. Democrats face a competitive map to maintain their control of the chamber in the 2024 elections, with several senators announcing their plans to not seek re-election.
