Rep. George Santos co-sponsors unemployment fraud bill while facing criminal charges.

Rep. George Santos, who was indicted on 13 criminal counts, including unemployment fraud, co-sponsored a bill to crack down on the same crime. The bill, known as the "Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act," passed by a vote of 230-200 and would provide incentives to help states recover money lost to COVID unemployment fraud. Santos is accused of fraudulently applying for and receiving unemployment benefits during the pandemic while working as a regional director of an investment firm. He denied the allegations and plans to fight the charges. Rep. Jim McGovern suggested renaming the bill the "George Anthony Devolder Santos Fraudster Protection Act."
