Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw to Resign This Month

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw has announced her resignation and will be leaving her position later this month to become the deputy chief security officer of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. First Deputy John Stanford will serve as interim police commissioner. Outlaw's resignation comes amid rising rates of homicides and other crimes in Philadelphia, and just months before the end of Mayor Jim Kenney's tenure. Outlaw, the first Black woman to lead the Philadelphia Police Department, faced challenges during her tenure, including protests over police killings and criticism of the department's response.
