Oregon Secretary of State's Cannabis Contract Controversy and State Audit Findings.

Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan released a copy of her $10,000-a-month cannabis consulting contract with La Mota, a dispensary chain, after intense pressure. Fagan claimed that she was hired to research cannabis opportunities in other states and that she did not know the owners before her 2020 campaign. However, records show that she repeatedly encouraged state auditors to consult one of the owners during an audit of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. Fagan also spoke with the lieutenant governor of Connecticut during her work for La Mota. She received criticism for making more from her private consulting gig than her full-time statewide-elected position.
