NY Counties Take Drastic Measures Amid Migrant Influx

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello issued an emergency order to prevent hotels, motels, and shelters from providing emergency housing until an emergency housing plan is submitted and approved by the Monroe County Department of Human Services. The order does not prevent migrants from coming to Monroe County while they await resolution of their legal asylum application. Hochul met with members of Congress to discuss the issue of an unprecedented shortage of emergency housing. Other counties in New York State have also issued emergency orders due to the influx of asylum-seekers.
