"North Carolina Republicans' Map Proposals Aim to Secure Four Additional House Seats for GOP in 2024"

Republican legislators in North Carolina have unveiled two redistricting proposals that could potentially jeopardize up to four Democratic-held seats in the US House, potentially giving the GOP an advantage in the chamber after the 2024 elections. The proposed maps would create "almost impossible to win" districts for three House Democrats and could also result in two of the state's three Black House lawmakers being drawn into the same district. Depending on the final map chosen, Republicans could be favored to win as many as 11 out of the state's 14 congressional districts. The North Carolina Democratic Party has criticized the proposals, calling them a manipulation of democracy.
