Mike Pompeo Rules Out 2024 Presidential Run

Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State and C.I.A. director in the Trump administration, has announced that he will not seek the Republican nomination for president in 2024. Pompeo had previously indicated his interest in running and toured early primary states, but ultimately decided that "this isn't our moment." He declined to endorse former President Donald Trump and obliquely criticized him, saying that "Americans are thirsting for people making arguments, not just tweets." Pompeo's aggressive foreign policy positions and ethics violations left him with an increasingly narrow lane for a presidential bid in a Republican Party whose base has shifted away from hawkish views in recent years.
