Mayoral Candidate Indicted for Involvement in Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

Gino DiGiovanni, a Republican candidate for mayor in Derby, has been charged for his role in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. DiGiovanni, who also serves as an alderman and Republican town chair, turned himself in at a federal courthouse in New Haven. He faces misdemeanor charges for seeking to disrupt Congress and unlawfully entering a restricted building. DiGiovanni claims innocence and plans to contest the charges. Despite the charges, he is still running for mayor, with the primary scheduled for September 12.
