Kansas Scraps Unpopular Blue and Gold License Plate, Starting Over

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly halted the production of a new blue and gold license plate design after facing widespread criticism. The design, which featured mostly gold with a navy strip across the top and no art, was deemed dull and unappealing by many. The governor promised a public vote on several possible designs, responding to the threat of intervention by the Republican-controlled Legislature. The current license plate, which has deteriorated over the years, will remain in use until a new design is chosen.
