"Jayapal Announces Congressional Run, Blumenauer Retires from Congress"

Susheela Jayapal, a Multnomah County Commissioner, has announced her candidacy for Congress to replace U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, who will not seek reelection. Jayapal, a first-generation Indian American, is the first Democrat to enter the race for the 3rd Congressional District. She emphasized the need for a progressive voice in Congress to combat extremist ideologies and promote a thriving and equitable community.
