White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre violated the Hatch Act by using the term "MAGA Republicans" during a briefing before the 2022 election, according to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. The agency issued a warning to Jean-Pierre, but did not pursue disciplinary action, citing that the White House Counsel's Office did not believe her remarks were prohibited at the time. Jean-Pierre called the finding "retroactive" and said the Counsel's Office is reviewing their opinion. The complaint was filed by a group called Protect the Public's Trust.
